BREED SPOTLIGHT — WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER PUPPIES

West Highland White Terrier puppies are bright, expressive and full of personality. They are often confident little dogs with plenty of curiosity and independence packed into a small frame.

That personality is a big part of their charm, but it also means early communication matters. Terriers can quickly learn to repeat behaviors that work for them, whether that means barking for attention, pulling toward interesting things or testing boundaries around the home.

My goal is not to flatten the personality families love. My goal is to give that personality direction through clear routines, household structure, calm leash foundations and better communication with the family.

Not true. The family is a huge part of the learning process.

If one person rewards jumping, another ignores it and someone else corrects it, the puppy is not being stubborn. The puppy is simply receiving mixed information.

I teach families how timing, repetition, body language and consistency affect behavior so that everyone in the home becomes part of the solution.

Inconsistency. Puppies learn from patterns. When the family is all over the place, the puppy usually becomes all over the place too. Clear routines and calm follow-through make a huge difference.
