I’m John Wasilishen, Owner and Master Trainer of NJ Puppy Whisperer.

Bulldog puppies have a lot of charm. They’re expressive, lovable, sturdy and full of personality.

They can also be determined little comedians. That means early education matters. The same puppy that melts everyone’s heart today can also quickly develop habits like jumping for attention, resisting routines or becoming overly pushy if the family isn’t clear and consistent.

The goal is not to erase the Bulldog personality. The goal is to guide it. With the right structure, calm leadership and family consistency, Bulldog puppies can become wonderful companions with great manners and a strong understanding of household expectations.

WHAT I TEACH THE FAMILY

One of the biggest misconceptions in puppy training is that only the puppy needs training.

Not true.

The family is a major part of the education process. If one person rewards jumping and another punishes it, the puppy isn’t being difficult. The puppy is simply receiving mixed information.

I teach the family how dogs learn, how body language influences behavior, how timing affects results and how small daily interactions create long-term habits. Once the humans understand the language, the puppy has a much better chance of succeeding.

REAL-LIFE PUPPY EDUCATION

Some of the most valuable lessons in puppyhood happen between the formal commands.

Waiting at the door. Settling while the family eats. Walking down the sidewalk without dragging someone. Greeting visitors without launching at them. Learning that shoes, furniture and fingers are not chew toys.

3. Can my children be involved in the sessions?

Absolutely, as long as it’s age appropriate. When the family learns together, the puppy gets more consistency, and that makes the training more effective.

Yes. That’s part of puppyhood. The important part is teaching the puppy what to do instead and giving the family a clear system for guiding those behaviors in the right direction.

Inconsistency. Puppies learn from patterns. If the rules change depending on the person or the moment, the puppy gets confused. Clear routines and calm repetition make a big difference.
